Need Help Paying for school?

Academic Scholarships are generally awarded for academic achievement, special abilities as indicated by the applicant's past record (high school and/or college), ACT or SAT scores, participation in extracurricular activities, and other criteria as defined by the specific scholarship programs. The following scholarships all require the student to be a Computer science major. In addition, scholarship students participate in departmental activities, including becoming a member of the local chapter of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and attending their regular meetings. Each scholarship may have slightly different requirements which will be listed below.




Richard Gaines Russell Memorial Scholarship

($3,500/year)

  • Deadline(s):
    • Fall: March 1
    • Spring: Must apply in fall
  • Specifics:
    • Must be a computer-science major
    • Minimum 3.5 GPA
    • Applicants should apply in last semester of junior year.
  • How to apply:
    Go to the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation and complete the application for a general scholarship, and specify Richard_Russell application.




Tom C. White Graduate Scholarship

($1,000-$2,000/year)

  • Deadline(s):
    • Fall: March 1
    • Spring: November 15th
  • Specifics:
    • Must remain in good academic standing and show satisfactory progress towards a computer science graduate degree.
    • This requires a student to be enrolled in at least 6 graduate hours per semester.
    • Applicants should apply in last semester of junior year.
  • How to apply:
    • Print and fill out the Tom C White application and then print or email to computer science department.

Colleen and Richard Simpson Computer Science Scholarship

  • Deadline(s):
    • Fall: March 1
    • Spring: Must apply in fall
  • Specifics:
    • Must be a computer-science major
    • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA with a 3.25 GPA in CS courses
    • preference given to women, U.S. citizens, and students with financial hardship.
  • How to apply:

Orion A. Daniel Computer Science Scholarship

(approx $500/semester)

  • Specifics:
    • Must be a computer-science major
    • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA with a 3.0 GPA in CS courses
    • Must be enrolled in a CMPS course and be a member of ACM

David and Gail White Scholarship

(approx $500/semester)

  • Deadline(s):
    • Fall: March 1
    • Spring: November 15th
  • Specifics:
    • Must be a computer-science major
    • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA with a 3.0 GPA in CS courses
    • Must be enrolled in a CMPS course and be a member of ACM
    • Preference given to juniors/seniors and US residents
  • How to apply:

Richard Gaines Russell Memorial Scholarship

($2000/year)

  • Deadline:
    • Fall: March 1st
    • Spring: November 15th
  • Specifics:
    • Must be a computer-science major
    • Be in academic good standing
    • Must be a junior or exceptional sophomore
  • No Applications:
    • Recipient is selected by scholarship committee.




Halverson Excellence Fund Computer Science Scholarship


This scholarship is funded by donations, 100% of which go to computer science students. Dr. Halverson served 40 years at MSU as a computer science professor and chair of the computer science department. She inspired and motivated many a person, not just students, but faculty as well. She is a great example of a person who has a deep appreciation for the human spirit and is trying to give back to MSU and the computing sciences through this scholarship. Please find it in yourself to support this scholarship.

These applications are not for the Richard Gaines and Tom C White scholarships (they have their own forms linked above). Any scholarship that does not have a form listed will use 1 or 2, and everyone applying should fill out form 3.
